What to Expect

Coming to therapy is an act of self-care, yet it can be nerve-racking and uncomfortable in the beginning. It is normal to have struggles in life or with the people you love, and it doesn’t mean there is anything wrong with you – it means you are human. After all, if we never felt uncomfortable, we'd never grow or learn.

The first few sessions of therapy will involve getting to know each other and the concerns that bring you to treatment. You will fill out standardized measures that we can use to track treatment progress. During the first few appointments, we will collaboratively develop goals and a treatment plan that will outline our work. Typically, therapy occurs once per week for 20-40 sessions, but varies based on your concerns and preferences. After we have met our goals, I often remain available to see clients for bi-weekly sessions or occasional check-ins to maintain progress, or to address other concerns that may arise in the future.

My Approach

I provide several evidenced-based, trauma-informed, and integrative methods of therapy, depending on your individual needs. I use approaches such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), family systems theory, humanistic psychology, and mindfulness. I also offer parenting guidance and support. When treating children, I often work directly with their schools, pediatricians, and others to ensure coordinated and comprehensive care. I incorporate an intersectional framework, recognizing that our various identities shape how we experience the world. Within my work, I affirm individuals of all races, ethnicities, religions, sexual orientations, and gender identities.
